Dan Shaughnessy’s Nov. 4 column (“Ortiz deal: no complaints,” Sports) about Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz’s new contract seemed to be missing something that so many Globe writers seem to have misremembered in regard to the Sox in general.
We did not win the 2004 and 2007 World Series just with the help of fun-loving and “Jack Daniel’s swiggin’.” Discussing Big Papi’s ups and downs and injuries and reboots without mentioning the phrase “performance-enhancing drugs” once would be like writing a column about Lance Armstrong without mentioning, um, bicycles.
