President Obama and Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren won because too many voters buy into the Democrats’ message that the people need their help. Too many think they are incapable of navigating in a world of business, real estate, and commerce. The Republican message — let government help you help yourself — doesn’t resonate when so many people are on the receiving end of federal benefits.
I’m not talking about Medicare and Social Security. I’m talking about welfare, Section 8 housing, and other items on a long list.

Welfare has now hit an all time high, 750 billion on 83 different federal programs and 250 billion on state programs. some people just don't care about their country, ask not what you can do for your country.
Fall on your knees and pray with all your heart, if you have one, that misfortune never falls upon you, and that you won't be forced to collect unemployment benefits, welfare, food stamps and medial care.
You keep posting these numbers and they're obviously a hot button for you. Why don't you leave? Why not move to a country that doesn't care about its citizens and doesn't provide services? We'd been fine until deregulation allowed the Wall Streeters to gamble with all our money and the previous administration put wars on the credit card. Perhaps you can move to an undisclosed location with Cheney or to that secret place where the WMDs are hidden.
In the old Me vs We shell game, you've opted for ME and to hell with WE. Whether you like it or not, there is certain amount of shared responsibility in this democratic republic. You got yours, and you don't intend to share it with anyone less fortunate. But you and I and many others are only an illness, an accident, an act of nature away from losing it all, and in need of the kind of support you disdain. Medicare and Social Security are both forms of social welfare; if you don't agree to also lend a helping hand to those less fortunate, then you should not be collecting from the "European-style nanny state." Don't need or want tainted government handouts? You want to be on your own? By all means, do so. To do otherwise makes you a hypocrite.
People who do the right things are a problem for Democrats. They have no leash on people who are frugal, pay their bills, save for retirement, and only buy what they can afford. But there are solutions. One of the clever solutions will be to tax them more heavily. Today the mantra is tax millionaires, but there are only so many millionaires, and there is so much spending to do. It won't be too long before the mantra is to increase taxes on people making $75,000 (they must pay their fair share), make it harder for them to make it without assistance. And harder to save for retirement. Finally, what to do about the savers? Spend more, then print more money, to devalue those savings. Pure genius, and a win-win. They spend and in the process can push more savers into dependancy. All those folks doing the right thing will be taught the lesson that it is futile to follow that path.
A very simplistic opinion. There are sooooo many people and businesses being unnecessarily paid by the state, local and Federal government it's laughable. Look at the military for one and tell me we need 47 nuclear powered and armed submarines with plans to build 12 more? The government purchased 180 F22's at a cost of $150 million each and then finally cancelled the other 150 on order. We have over 700 military bases in foreign countries including huge bases in Germany and Japan. Yes join the army and see the world - all ont the taxpayers nickel. There are over 2.5 million military personnel and 900 generals in the armed forces. Any guess what that costs the taxpayer or what their retirement and pension will cost us? And all for what? To stop the shoe bomber? If you think there is socialism coming don't worry, it's already here in the military industrial complex!
So much sanctimonious piffle. Stop whining and just carry on.
that work ethic is gone....and Romney was right about the freebie crowd. If you do not have the latest Ipad or Ipod you are poor...look at the lines to buy them every 6 months....shame on us..almost all the people start at entry level jobs and work their way up...and what is happening are unions believe they are entitled to beyond what a company or public city or town can afford.....we are in a financial mess now....just look at what happen to Hostess, Wonder bread plants....closed down....the unions made it impossible to ship from the same plant to the same store in the same truck...you needed two different unions driving the trucks..is this the american we become? But this is what will happen if it is.
