As a former retail employee who hated working the extra hours on Black Friday, let me offer the following proposal (“Early Black Friday opening planned at malls,” Nov. 15). For any company that wants to be open for extended hours, all upper management (vice presidents and up) and all members of the board of directors should be required to work, on the selling floor, for a full eight-hour shift beginning at the earliest time that sales employees are required to work on that day. If all such executives cannot or will not work those hours, then none of that company’s stores should be allowed to open. End of discussion.

I like it!
When work becomes punishment, leave. Retail executives pay the bills, pay the salaries, keep the doors open and maintain competitaveness. They're not there to be punished by the employees.
