Solar vs. nuclear: It’s no contest

RE “Investments in solar energy are paying off in Massachusetts” (Nov. 23): Your editorial on installations of solar energy in Massachusetts seemed appealing, until I read that we are up to 174 megawatts installed. That’s only about a tenth of the output of a single nuclear plant.

The 2017 goal of 250 megawatts is still far less than we would get from a nuclear power installation. The solar energy emphasis seems too minor to be worth much of our attention.

Comments

I find one tenth the output of a single nuclear plant impressive at this point. With solar panels improving and costs dropping, in 20 years it's possible solar, wind and wave generated electricity combined will exceed the output of a nuclear plant - without the radioactive waste that can't be disposed of.
