RE “Romney for mayor of Boston” (Op-ed, Dec. 4): You don’t need to go far to find somebody who did exactly what Joanna Weiss suggests — just the West Coast should do. Jerry Brown was governor of California, ran for president in Democratic primaries, dropped out, came back as mayor of Oakland, and back to governor of California.
I think she intended her column as tongue-in-cheek, but a Romney revival could become real.

I fundamental difference between to the two is that Mr. Brown was raised at a time and in a place that valued democratic government as a legitimate instrument for social progress. Pat Brown had made the University of California the envy of the nation. He was preceded by a Republican governor who became known worldwide for his fidelity to social justice. One may agree or disagree with the content of his programs but Jerry Brown's heart was firmly centered and still is. Times are different now and the Mitt Romney did not learn the lessons of his father. "The Real Romney" should be read to learn as much about the father as the son.
I agree. Jerry Brown was an experienced politician who wants to serve his community and state. Mitt Romney is a businessman who wanted to enhance his resume with the position of highest CEO in the country. Fortunately, the Peter Principle (look it up) did not get enacted out this time.
