The alarmed tone of the article “Deduction cap would hit the comfortable” (Page A1, Dec. 5) struck me as preposterous. We have been in two costly wars for the past 10 years and in an economic slump for the past four; yet “the comfortable” have borne little of the burden.
The tax increase you warn about would hardly cover one additional feature on those “base-model BMWs.” For the comfortable to carry a share of the struggle that the uncomfortable have shouldered is not only just, it may serve to better unite us to work together to strengthen the economy for all.

while I agree Allison, there's one problem. The tax hike will generate an estimated 80 to 85 billion a year, President Obama just asked congress for a 50 billion dollar stimulus and 60 billion in aid for Hurricane Sandy, already spent before he gets it, with a 25 billion deficit. We have a spending problem, big time. Seems to me that "We the people" could turn over every dime we have and it still wouldn't be enough, time to reign in government.
