As a retailer, I was frustrated by the front-page Dec. 12 headline that proclaimed, “Amazon to charge Mass. sales tax.” Like the rest of us retailers in Massachusetts, Amazon would not be “charging” sales tax on anything. They, like we, are just collection agents for the Commonwealth.

We collect the 6.25 percent due and, Lord help us if we don’t, we forward the funds to the Department of Revenue by the 20th of the month.
