2d Amendment must be changed, once and for all

As the new movie “Lincoln” shows, President Lincoln used all of his political wisdom to correct one of the biggest flaws in the Constitution by getting the 13th Amendment passed in the House to eliminate slavery. In light of the latest massacre, in which 20 children were killed in an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., on top of all the other shootings this year and in recent years, the time has come— indeed it is long past due — to correct the other serious flaw in the Constitution: the Second Amendment on the right to bear arms. Without question, the Second Amendment needs to be amended to curtail the widespread sale and ownership of short and long guns.

Abraham Lincoln, our greatest president, took up the challenge in 1864. President Obama and our current Congress should take up the challenge to amend the Second Amemdment 150 years later.
