On Libya inquiry, GOP goes haywire

FARAH STOCKMAN’S excellent column “ ‘Benghazi Show’ jumps the shark” (Op-ed, Dec. 18) pointed out a departure from precedent regarding support for potential secretaries of state.

I will say what she left unsaid, and it is truly the elephant in the room: In the past 20 years, one party, the Republican Party, has developed a pattern of extreme reactions to events that at worst are inconsequential to the conduct of government matters: Whitewater, the Clinton-Lewinsky affair, and now Benghazi.

Barbara, 4 americans were murdered in Libya, I would hardly call that inconsequential. We have a Marine Unit guarding our embassy in Paris, not in Libya, something is very wrong with that picture, and yes, it needs to be addressed.

yes, a President lying under oath and being disbarred is nothing

So Clinton lied about Iraq too?

Of course, any questionning of this president is simply unpatriotic.  Read on, to see what else cannot be asked:

Since when are 4 deaths ANYwhere "inconsequential" to be ignored; or does it take 20 of them to rate "consequentiality"?

To term our Libyan deaths in such a casual, unfeeling manner, and then to label them a "show" that is being exploited by only one party, heaps further disgrace on the author and the response to this article.

Our people in Benghazi asked several times for extra security and were denied, even after the consulate was attacked twice - one time leaving a 14 feet hole in the wall!  They begged for help during the attack, which was witnessed in Washington.  We had forces at the ready but they were expllicitly told to Not help.  And, what people seem to forget is, that had the two Navy Seals not disobeyed the order to stand down, an additional 30 plus people would have been killed.

In addtion to the needless loss of life, the word is out that we won't protect our diplomatic corps.

And you call this inconsequential!!??

Just imagine the Dems' outcry had this occurred under a Republican administration.

The real issue is why liberal democrats consistently want to govern above the Constitution when the GOP's mission is to goverign under the Constution. Using your premise, Nixon should not have been impeached, Clinton's bad judgement and associated lies should have been ignored,  been pursued, three democratic house speakers should have not been punished. Let us suspend any investigations starting with automotive accident/death responsibility. The list grows, so the next time you feel the need to bring charges, remember they will not be investigated. Winston Churchill had the perfect definition of a socialist. Look it up, it applies to your comments.

he four state department officials reported to have "resigned effective immediately" or been "relieved of their responsibilities" in the wake of the State Department internal analysis on the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya aren't going away after all.

The New York Post is reporting that the highest ranking of the group, Assitant Secretary of State Eric Boswell, is "just switching desks" within the State Department.  The other three are on "administrative leave and are expected back" on the job.

Where iS SoS Clinton???

The Republicans thought they had their October surprise. However, Benghazi is certainly not "inconsequential"; yet it did give the Republicans an opening to create and enlarge a controversy right before the election. It gives us pause to wonder what were their priorities when historically, they gave the Clinton sex scandal equal noise to a tragedy in Libya.
