Democrats have legacy of denying civil rights

THE 1965 Voting Rights Act would not have passed the Senate had not Republicans voted 94 percent in favor of the bill, compared with only 73 percent of the Democratic senators who supported it .

Among the Democratic senators voting against the legislation : Sam Ervin, Richard Russell, Herman Talmadge, John C. Stennis, and John Sparkman.

shhh Peter, the democrats don't want the people to know this, they also voted against abolishing slavery, but keep that quiet too.

Laughable. This is such a childish argument.

Those were all Southern segregationists (unaffectionately known as "Segs"). Did you omit that information on purpose to make Democrats look bad?

The Segs switched to the Republican party when Richard Nixon's "Southern strategy." It was a conscieous effort to woo Southern racists. They've learned not to be so blatant, but they're still Republicans. Most Southern blacks vote Democratic.
