Protestants left off tally of diversity

THE GLOBE’S editorial on religious diversity in the new Congress (“Fighting, but not about religion,” Jan. 3) leaves out some information. The editorial mentions there are 161 Catholics, 32 Jews, along with others, but nowhere do you list Protestants.

Are there none in Congress? Or are they the ones who can’t get along?

Comments

Since Protestants comprise the dominant religious affiliation in this country, the gist of the article is that the other 342 members of Congress are Protestants. Time was, you weren't even considered white in this country if you were a Catholic or a Jew, and anti-Catholic and anti-Jewish biases persist in this country today.
