Last week scientists confirmed what many Bay Staters have begun to see as the norm: 2012 was the hottest year on record in the United States (“Year was nation’s warmest on record,” Page A1, Jan. 9). Nineteen states also saw record heat years, including Massachusetts. We need only think back to July’s heat and the destruction caused by Superstorm Sandy to consider what we can expect to see more of if we don’t take action to curb global warming now.
We know what needs to be done — cut the largest sources of carbon pollution fueling global warming, and build up Massachusetts’ renewable programs. The path to turn down the heat at the country’s biggest source of carbon pollution is here. President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency are proposing rules to limit carbon pollution from new power plants for the first time ever. A record number of Americans have already spoken out in support of the proposed standards, and I urge the EPA to finish the job on these standards and also develop standards for existing power plants.

a 20% carbon tax will take care of all our problems, maybe a better solution would be if the government takes over every company that spews carbon. No oil, no natural gas, no nuclear, going forward.

Yeah! Divest in Fossil fuels. Invest in solar, wind, hydro and algae-based biofuels.

The rules have been around for several years. And Perhaps this writer just FORGOT to mention what chief Global Warming guru Al Gore did with his cable network. He sold it to the highest bidder, which happened to be Al Jazeera of Qatar. Ever listen to Al Jazeera's ARABIC language broadcasts? They pray that Allah will help the Muslims eliminate every Jew in the whole world. And, of course, this writer has NO PROBLEM with all of the other countries in the world continue their same energy policies. You should be DEMANDING that Syria's government end the violence there. Assad is using dirty BOMBS and even chemical weapons. These cause lots of HEAT and AIR POLLUTION. And when Barack Obama allows Iran to get a nuclear weapon (you DO know that he won't take military action to prevent it) that there will be plenty of RADIOACTIVITY, which will damage the environment.
