A more squirrel-like approach is called for

Monday was National Squirrel Appreciation Day as well as the presidential inauguration. I wonder whether the president thought about that as he was being given the oath of office.

Think of what he could learn from squirrels. Squirrels know that in times of plenty, they need to think ahead. They build up a surplus in the form of fat. They store their nuts and seeds for a time when food sources are lean. And when that time comes, they eat in moderation, for they can’t eat more than they find and collect.

This letter is truly ridiculous. To equate the economy and budgeting of the United States government to the actions of the rodent shows such a total lack of understanding of macro economics it is hard to know where to even begin. I can begin by saying the Globe could really take a pass on these letters. They add nothing to the discussion and simply continue the obfuscatin that the US government budget and deficit is akin to a household budget. It's absurd and misleading.

To the writer--this letter is neither cute nor clever nor does it come close to adding anything worthwhile to a serious discussion. Do yourself a favor...as a start, go through the NYT's archives and read Paul Krugman, the Nobel Prize winner in economics. He chunks economic issues up into manageable pieces. Get educated, at least a little on this issue, rather than swallowing the pap of Faux News.

LinRP:  Ahhh, yes, if you can't convince them with brilliance, baffle em with BS.  Everything MUST be complex, right?  Wrong.  Most things are in fact incredibly simple, like budgets.  Mr. Krugman is one of those who makes a living from turning the simple into the complex.  If he wasn't busily writing about economics, he would find his fortune dealing 3 card Monte, but then he has folks like you that drink his flavor of Kool Aid.

Do YOURSELF a favor, turn on Faux News, and instead of listening with an ear as to what is "ALL WRONG", try "What might I learn from this?"  I watch lots of news from opposing viewpoints, I do not reject all of it.  Anyone who thinks that everything on Faux News is wrong is a fool at best.

I agree, LinRP... the letter is "cutsie"... tries to be clever but it doesn't work. Don't mind sanctimonious HistoryIsJustThat's comments...

Of course. a squirrel has more brains than Obama.
