NRA may be on to something

About the only concession that the National Rifle Association is willing to make to the overwhelming public call for stronger gun controls is a vague proposal to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.

I think we should eagerly accept this idea, provided that a desire to own an assault rifle, a semiautomatic pistol, a large magazine, or armor-piercing bullets is considered prima facie evidence of mental illness.

Comments

Almost all of the shooters in recent mass murders were Democrats.

Maybe we should consider being a Democrat a leading indicator of mental illness.

When in doubt, make up the facts. It works for Fox news.

If you think a 1/2 watt light bulb is brilliant.

It's not only dull, it's also hazardous.

Splendid!! Irresistibly funny... and right on the money. Thank you for your clever letter!

Clever letters are not going to address a real problem we now have in our society which two many people are unwilling to come to grips with.  The problem is not the firearms it is why are these individuals doing what they are doing.

You can blame  the guns but they are not the cause and sooner our grandstanding politicians come to understand that and stop proposing feel good lawstone better off we all will be.

Clever?

I, too, would like spikethedog to cite the source of his contention that most mass murderers were Democrats. And please, not from the Fox entertaiment industry.

Why would any rational human being feel his or her need for a Bushmaster or an AK 47 wih a 30 round clip is more important than another Sandy Hook?

.............because of the fear that the ban on such weapons is merely a Trojan Horse which will be used to ban all guns.  Nothing irrational about it.

One of the most ignorant comments I've ever read on this topic, congrats.

...........and you've just made the case against the "mental illness test", which could fall prey to control by your entirely self-defined, narrow and closed-minded, definition of being disqualified from gun ownership simply because they "desire" to own a gun.

Congratulations for establishing a standard by which all will be judged -- nothing vague about it.
