Maybe it’s time for background checks on gun owners

RE “A Mass. hedge in FBI gun checks: State law prevents sharing of records on mental health” (Page A1, Jan. 28): It seems as if many of us are suddenly convinced that ONLY the mentally ill are committing all the gun violence in the country. I don’t like the implications of stigmatizing mental health patients, though I realize that recent atrocities were committed by mentally defective people.

We need to think carefully about how to make and keep records of ANY population that we think could or might commit gun violence. The first group on MY list would be gun owners. Monitoring of this group should be uppermost in the minds of law enforcement and thorough enough to be both a warning and a reminder that they are being monitored.

There are 300 million guns owned in America.  We should have each one followed and tracked by the government.

Well Marcia, since more children under 12 are killed each year by "hands, fists, feet" than by guns (normally their parents), here is another "group" that we better start "monitoring" very carefully.

Then we have the number of achohol related traffic deaths, time to start "monitoring" those drinkers, too, whaddya say?

Speeders, like the "crazies" we see out on 95, 495, with multiple speeding tickets, I say "monitor" them.

Nice Police State ideas you have there, Marcia, move here from East Germany did you?

(the rest of you did notice that she had "groups" that should be placed on "lists", didn't you?)

Richmond12:  Yes, yes! Follow and track, by all means! BY THE GOVERNMENT.  The incredibly inept gov cannot keep track of where welfare money is going, where the guns went in Fast N Furious, 12 million illegal aliens, ad nauseam.  Your faith in government is amazing.  The same gov you think is going to take care of you, good luck.

Marcia, you don't want to stigmatize mentally ill patients but then you call them mentally defective?

profiling! profiling!
