I disagree with Scot Lehigh’s analysis in his Feb. 8 op-ed “Patrick’s plan too ambitious for the times.” Governor Patrick has proposed a sweeping tax plan that addresses two critical issues: transportation and education. The plan proposes that new revenue be dedicated to address problems that have left our state in a no-win position.
The governor and Legislature have the opportunity to develop a plan to address the ever-increasing transportation operating budget deficit, not just for the MBTA but for transportation across the state.

I hope you're checking the box to pay the higher rate this year on your tax returns. Again, we don't need rail service to Springfield or New Bedford.
Taking care of the transportation deficit AFTER all posible consolidations and contractual economies are accomplished is needed.
It is not done through multi billion expansions of transit extensions or new railroads. They will probably forever run at additional
deficits, never coming close to paying back the original investments of federal and state moneys =our taxpayer $$$ and deficits.
Take care of secondary and higher educational shortcomings before taking over responsibilities of parents for 4 year olds.
In state or free tuition for immigrants takes funds from higher education. Shaving Administration costs and increasing teaching
loads of teacher/-professors is a start there.
. The Democratic governor of New York says new taxes there would stifle job creation. Democratic governor of Virginia
suggested dropping the gas tax and increasing the sales tax. They have a different play book than Gov. Patrick.
I heartily agree!
