About 75,000 die each year from causes attributable to alcohol. This is in STARK contrast to the fact that the number of deaths attributable to marijuana use is practically zero.
I am offended by the misinformation and propaganda regarding concerns over proposed marijuana dispensaries. I live in a community of about 6 square miles, with what seems like a liquor store on every corner. This does not include the countless bars and restaurants that also serve liquor or the smaller stores that sell beer and wine.

But Andrew, what would the government do without it's "War on Drugs"?
All those guys in black tactical gear, wearing masks, fully automatic weapons, busting down doors would have to actually go around in your neighborhood enforcing the law instead of conducting raids.
I understand Andrew's frustrations. For better or worse depending on one's POV, his town certainly has it's share of places to get anything from a $15 dirty martini to a cold 40oz in a paper bag. I'm not at all opposed to a well-regulated dispensary although I don't think it's going to improve things in his neighborhood. Sure, you'll get all types coming in and out of there but at the end of the day, the people of this State have spoken. When it comes to my town, I'll listen to what the applicant is proposing and if the facility is top-notch and lt location is appropriate, I'll support it.
WHat about folks in apartment buildings?
I don't really care if timmy smokes himself silly.....but nor do I want to walk thru his cloud of stink, or have it permate (smell and traces of drug) into MY living space.
When I have a drink, I do not expose the person next to me, or upstairs from me, to my "habit". The stoners do.
WHat about all the candy and snack wrappers? :)
