letters | mclaughlin makes a deal

Why did Jesse Jackson Jr. get such a harsh sentence compared to Michael McLaughlin?

MICHAEL MCLAUGHLIN, the former Chelsea Housing Authority is facing no more than a year and half of incarceration, part in federal prison and part in a halfway house or in his own home under house arrest. (“McLaughlin will plead guilty, assist probe,” Page A1, Feb. 16)

This slap on the wrist is despite his alleged misappropriation of hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Commonwealth and $7 million in federal grants.

Meanwhile, former US Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. could get 46 to 57 months in prison for using $750,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses. (“Jesse Jackson Jr., wife plead guilty to scheme,” Page A5, Feb. 16)

Where’s the justice?
