Sununu’s sense of the Senate speaks volumes

John E. Sununu brings nothing new to the sequester debate (“D.C.’s version of ‘Who’s on First,’ ” Op-ed, March 4). His extreme partisanship is exquisitely on display. When he speaks of finding the necessary votes for passage of any bill, his arithmetic is a simple majority of 218 for the House but 60 for the Senate, which is not a simple majority but the votes necessary for cloture.

That the Senate now requires a supermajority for passage of legislation has created a tyranny of the minority that has greatly contributed to the current stalemate.
