Romney’s nod to wealthy few is what had voters shaking their heads

Mitt Romney has popped up again ruing the things he did or didn’t do that cost him the election (“Romney rues errors, says loss ‘kills me,’ ” Page A1, March 4). What he fails to grasp is that his problem was what he appeared to believe. People who believe, as Romney seemed to, that an elite few deserve the bulk of the material wealth of this country will always have an uphill battle to win the presidency.

Ayn Rand’s vision is hokum. In fact, most of the population probably works just as hard as Romney, if not harder, and deserves a fair share of the pie rather than scorn. Without millions of hard workers directly or indirectly supporting Romney and his ilk, where would he be? Subsistence farming perhaps? Those on top of the pyramid need to realize that we are all in this together and that everyone deserves respect and a fair share.

Comments

Like George W. Bush, Mr. Romney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, has never worked hard a day in his life, has been rscued from his many mistakes, and knows nothing of the daily travails of the 98%. He is clueless of a world in which one has less than 100 million dollars in assets. I await a new Molly Ivins, who wrote the expose of Bush, "Shrub", to do the same re: Romney. However, it is questionable whether Romney can learn from it. END

Born with a silver spoon?  You mean like the Kennedy's?

Trash the Kennedy's all you want, but they work down and dirty with real people - whether it is as an ADA trying regular cases or with special needs families through the Special Olympics or running an fuel assistance program, the Kennedy's walk the talk.

I'd say more like "born with a silver foot in his mouth." (Thank you Ann Richards)

So "Romney seems to (believe) that an elite few deserve the bulk of the material wealth of this country"? No, he just believes that those who earn wealth should be able to keep a fair portion of it.  Socialists like you believe in income redistribution, a policy that has failed everywhere it's been tried.

Romney has given more to the poor and various charities then probably 10 of you could ever give in your lifetime.  He's also created enough jobs to spread wealth to many, and done it in a way that doesn't forcefully redistribute it.

Your letter displays an uncommon anger at wealth.  You seem to imply that everyone who works hard should be paid the same.  That didn't work in the Soviet Union, what makes you think it will work in the US?

What's fair?  Have you seen this: http://youtu.be/rMhvYeQPOcE

Do you know what the wealthy own in this country compared to the rest of us?

"That didn't work in the Soviet Union, what makes you think it will work in the US?"

So who's advocating a Soviet system be imposed here in the US?

It's a spoof, but I'd recommend following this link to The Onion:

The famous "fair share" baloney.  Oh puhleeze.

Exactly who decides what is fair share?  All those who want to take from someone who has what they want?

Ahh, I see, those who do not have will convene a impartial panel to decide how much they can steal from the wealthier.  Too funny.

Historyisjustdumb, you seem to think thesepeople earned their money. Ha! They aquired it like a commodity. Or inheritedit, hello, lucky sperm club.  And please don't share your log cabin sucesstory with us again.
