Letters | A NEW POPE IS ELECTED TO LEAD THE CHURCH

Good things expected from Pope Francis

As a non-Catholic, I am pleased with the choice for the new pope (“A historic, yet conventional, leader for the church,” Page A12, March 14). I see Pope Francis as caring for the world’s hungry and downtrodden. He also appears to be for no nonsense or attention to trappings. I especially like the idea that he has a degree in chemistry, which I see as bringing a scientific, critical view to problems that he will examine during his tenure. I wish him a long healthy life and expect good things for all people because of him.
