Thank you so much to Yvonne Abraham for her March 14 Metro column “Is it possible to reconcile?” She expressed what so many of us are feeling about the Catholic Church — the depth of our desire to have the church change, no matter how much evidence its leaders present to us that we find deplorable. In the face of their abuse of children and their views on gays, abortion, birth control, and the role of women, we still hope.
We want and need a place of peace and comfort. But no amount of white smoke can cover the blackness of the church’s past.

The process for selecting the Pope is just the same as in any authoritarian, non-democratic regime. It's simply power games, behind closed doors.
