‘Mother of martyrs’ is an appalling example of motherhood

I am appalled by the closing paragraph of the Associated Press obituary “Mariam Farhat, at 64; Palestinian ‘mother of martyrs’ ” (March 18). It is not just Israelis who view murder of unarmed civilians as terrorism, or who are “generally appalled” by celebrations of such acts. The sanctity of life is one of the tenets of Western civilization.

Cherishing one’s children is a corollary of that tenet. According to the obituary, Farhat “said she wished she had 100 sons to die while attacking Israelis.” She was so full of hatred that I can find no semblance of humanity in her.
