I could not agree more with the March 22 editorial arguing that former House speaker Salvatore DiMasi should get consideration for a “compassionate release” from prison. What he and his wife have been through is enough punishment for anything he did. I cannot understand why this is a difficult thing for the federal prison authorities to do.
Prisons are well over the limit to house everyone, and this man did serve the state of Massachusetts for many years. I wonder whether his wife has considered suing the federal prison system, since she and DiMasi’s lawyer say that when DiMasi became ILL, nothing was done for quite some time.
