Lawmakers’ plan doesn’t do nearly enough to address transit woes

I agree with advocates for public transportation who say that the new proposals by Massachusetts legislative leaders don’t do nearly enough to fix the huge problems with repairs and replacement of equipment (“State gets scaled-back transit plan,” Page A1, April 3). Like the transit advocates, I also think the proposed 3 cents a gallon gas tax hike is inadequate.

Compared to transit, an average one-passenger car emits far more greenhouse gases. Have our political leaders forgotten the elephant in the room, climate change?
