MASSACHUSETTS TAXPAYERS are being played for fools. The outrageous state budget isn’t being questioned, only competing tax-hike plans to pay for it. One plan is Governor Deval Patrick’s; he wants to increase spending, raise income taxes, and increase corporate taxes. Now the Legislature, coming at it as if they were doing something good or better, wants to increase taxes on gasoline, cigarettes, utilities, and software services.
No one is questioning whether to raise taxes at all, only how much and by which means. The taxpayers of Massachusetts will lose either way.
