Letters | PUBLIC-SAFETY STANCES, IN ALL THEIR COMPLEXITY

Senators’ vote on gun control bars them from opining on public safety

RE “Failure to call Tsarnaev enemy combatant hampers probe” (Op-ed, May 1): It is the height of hypocrisy for New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham to be lecturing anyone on matters of public safety and law enforcement. It was just last month that they had a chance to vote to close the loophole allowing no background checks at gun shows, a loophole that Al Qaeda has urged its fanatics to exploit.

Ayotte and Graham cowered in front of the National Rifle Association and abdicated their responsibility to protect out nation’s citizenry. As such, they have zero credibility on matters pertaining to the safety of the American people, and their demagoguery in the wake of the Marathon bombings is shameful.
