The Globe’s May 2 editorial on getting the two senatorial candidates to pledge not to run “outside attack” ads came hardly as the ink had dried on stories about results of the April 30 primary election (“Politicking aside, Gomez should join Markey in ‘people’s pledge’ ”). It almost seems as if you were asking: How can we stack the June 25 election in favor of Ed Markey? Recent in-state elections have shown that results favor Democrats here when Republicans play by Democratic rules, such as agreeing to limits on campaign spending. Gomez will be well served if he ignores the Globe’s advice and allows his campaign to remain open to campaign ads by outside groups.
