Winners, losers in debate over burial

Kudos to Derrick Z. Jackson for his May 11 column “The decency to bury a body.” He said everything that we felt and said to friends and family about the debate regarding the disputed burial of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who is a human being like the rest of us.

Brickbats to our politicians — Governor Deval Patrick, Representative Ed Markey, Mayor Tom Menino, and Cambridge City Manager Robert Healy — who pandered to the basest responses of a few nonthinking, rabid protesters. Was it because Tsarnaev, a Muslim, was seen as one of the so-called others? We hope not. This was definitely not “Boston Strong” behavior.
