School’s position clouds a matter at heart of Catholic teaching

The controversy surrounding Boston College’s invitation to Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny is far more serious than a matter of striking “a difficult balance” (“Standing by its invitation,” Editorial, May 14). Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley called on the university to manifest a Catholic witness on a matter that is at the heart of Catholic teaching. Sadly, Boston College thought it had the right to refuse, leaving many Catholics and others confused and wondering who speaks for the Catholic Church in Boston.
