Seems as if lawmakers are working for everyone but us

Regarding last Sunday’s lead front-page story, “They go to lead, but courting cash is now job 1”: Let me see if I’ve got this straight. Our nation’s taxpayers are paying our members of Congress to spend 40 percent of their time raising money from mostly well-heeled people who are buying Congress’s allegiance to achieve goals that are not necessarily in the best interests of the nation’s taxpayers.

Since members are expected by their party’s campaign committees to spend four hours of a 10-hour day raising money, it’s clear that when they’re working for the committee, or their own political futures, they’re not working for us.
