Put a stop to unfettered filibuster power

Lautenberg’s death adds to Democrats’ legislative troubles” (Page A6, June 4) notes that many Senate Democrats are reluctant to change the rules that allow unfettered filibustering of any bill on the Senate floor, in part “because they could one day find themselves in the minority wishing they had unfettered filibuster power.” How can they not realize that, as soon as the GOP had a majority in the Senate, they would enact such a rule change anyway to deny to Democrats the power the Republicans have abused for so many years?

It is time to eliminate this most undemocratic rule so that we can get on with the business of governing this country.
