Defending Citizens United is a mark against Republican

Even as he wished to paint himself as a moderate in his second debate with Democrat Edward Markey, Republican Gabriel Gomez revealed that he supports the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision (“Gomez makes bid for Democratic voters,” Page A1, June 12). He claimed that “it’s just free speech.” Well, that form of free speech, which really means the expenditure of vast sums of undisclosed money, has already corrupted the political process in which Gomez wishes to take part. His airy embrace of what Markey rightly calls “one of the worst decisions in the history of the United States” disqualifies Gomez from the very office he seeks. I believe American voters came to this conclusion when they rejected Mitt Romney for the office he sought, and for quite the same reasons.
