Regarding the Robert Kraft-Vladimir Putin kerfuffle (“Kraft’s Super Bowl ring: Taking one for the team,” Editorial, June 19), I am reminded of a Virginian’s take on the events at Appomattox Court House in April 1865: When General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant met, Grant admired Lee’s sword. Lee, ever the gentleman, offered it to Grant for a closer look, and Grant took this as Lee’s surrender of the Confederate forces.
