I am astonished that the Obama administration is making the same mistake as other presidents, providing weapons of death and destruction to another so-called rebel group in the Middle East (“US to furnish military aid to Syrian rebels,” Page A1, June 14). The decision to involve our country once more in a civil war where there will be no winners and only more death and destruction will only result in having our hands bathed in the blood of Syrians on both sides.
I cast my vote for Barack Obama twice because I believed him when he said that he would remove this country’s military from harm’s way. He reneged on his Afghanistan promise, and now he is inserting this country into another power struggle among Islamic factions with no guarantee as to where millions of dollars of weaponry will wind up and in whose hands.
Gandhi could not have made it any simpler when he asked, “What difference does it make to the dead . . . whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or in the holy name of liberty or democracy?”
