PAUL PIERCE has been the backdrop to my coming of age. He was a rookie when I was in 6th grade, and I’ve just received my master’s degree. Throughout all that time, he has been the cornerstone of the Celtics franchise. I am a huge sports fan, so much so that I have to sometimes remind myself that there are things going on in the world more important than the Celtics.
But Paul Pierce leaving Boston (“A new era,” Sports, June 28) is more than just a sports story. The city of Boston has lost way more than just a future Hall of Famer. This city has lost something intangible and indescribable. As a lifelong Cambridge resident and Celtics fan, I’ve lost a piece of home and someone who’s truly a hero.
