How about a little slack for stressed, double-parked parents of move-in day?

College move-in day is always a stressful event. On Sept. 1, after three trips to Boston and back and many backbreaking hours of hauling furniture up the hill on Judge Street, I returned to my parked vehicle, with its flashers on, to find a $100 parking ticket. What a way end to a trying day.

I am a big proponent of the Boston Police Department and the difficult job of law enforcement. I marvel at how the department responds to crisis.

I recently wrote a letter to the commissioner thanking him for his leadership during these types of events.

However, issuing $100 tickets to normal law-abiding folks who are just trying to get their college kids moved in and get out of the city sends the wrong message.
