Kerry gets the gravity of the situation

Re “John Kerry’s bad idea” (Op-ed, Sept. 5): Alex Beam dismisses Secretary of State John Kerry with an ad hominem attack (“Kerry reached deep into his formidable arsenal of portentous cliches”), which omits any possibility that Kerry, based on his experience, knowledge, and temperament, has decided that, on the merits, the case of Syria deserves the response that he has advocated.

Neither Kerry nor President Obama is a hawk. Beam derides Kerry “for storming Capitol Hill to make the case for a hermetic little military action in the Middle East.” I, for one, believe Kerry is worthy of being listened to.
