No reason to expect Menino to shut it down as term ends

Joan Vennochi (“Menino, tap the brakes,” Op-ed, Sept. 12) seems to suggest that a public officeholder who has spent two decades thinking about how to position the city for progress and growth can suddenly shut his mind down and put creativity and innovation in a lockbox.

I think Boston taxpayers deserve to get the very best out of their mayor. They elected him and they fund his office, and I don’t believe they want him merely showing up at ribbon cuttings and greeting visitors at City Hall. I think they want to see the mayor use his experience, knowledge, and wisdom to continue to advance Boston, whether it is the first quarter of his term or the last.
