A call to close floodgates against Citizens United, one state at a time

Supreme Court decisions such as Citizens United and McCutcheon have opened the floodgates to massive political spending by special interests. Mike Luckovich’s Nov. 3 cartoon of the turkeys lined up to vote for the hatchet-wielding Pilgrim aptly depicts the dysfunction this causes.

The Founding Fathers wisely provided us with a tool to close these floodgates by amending the Constitution. Vermont and California recently voted to call for a constitutional convention under Article Five. Hopefully, Massachusetts, the birthplace of American democracy, will join them soon.
