Ice harvesting, once a thriving business, is now recreated at winter ice festivals around New England. In the early years, horses cut grooves in the ice in a grid and then workers used hand saws to make the blocks. Then they were guided up a chute into an icehouse. — Thea Breite and Lisa Tuite
