The triple crown is indeed rare. More rare is to win the triple crown across all baseball. Cabrera did not have the highest batting average in the majors this year. Five players have won triple crowns with the highest numbers of any player that year in either league. 1909, Cobb; 1925, Hornsby; 1934, Gehrig; 1942, Williams; and 1956, Mantle. How would you like to take a time machine and build a team around these guys?............footnote: Cobb won with 9 home runs.
