Bucky Dent blasted a three-run home run that helped defeat the Red Sox in the Yankees' 5-4 win in the one-game playoff.
Dent had just four home runs all year before popping one into the net.

Red Sox manager Don Zimmer lifted starter Mike Torrez after Dent's home run.
Yankees reliever Goose Gossage, center, was able to retire the Red Sox without allowing a run in the ninth to secure the win.
The win allowed the Yankees to move on to the American League Championship Series.

Yankees owner George Steinbrenner came to the Red Sox clubhouse and shook hands with Carlton Fisk after the game.
"I feel so sorry for Mrs. Yawkey," left fielder Carl Yastrzemski said of the team owner.
A disappointed Zimmer took questions in his office after the game.
