About the Fenway Park special section

Fenway Park is special to New Englanders. I’m willing to say that most people would be able to recount the first time they stepped foot in the venerable ballpark. Many would remember the first time they walked down Yawkey Way — with the aroma of popcorn, peanuts, and sausage in the air, and the brick edifice seemingly standing just inches from the street itself — keenly anticipating the start of the game.

My memories are associated with my wife and two daughters and the seats along the third-base line that we were lucky enough to occupy once a season. The viewing angle wasn’t great — the seats and aisles a little too narrow — yet from that vantage point, we could actually see expressions on players’ faces, hear the umpire call strikes, and catch Nomar Garciaparra chewing on the laces of his glove. Jose Canseco once hit a home run over the Green Monster that was so majestic, it seemed to travel directly over our heads.
