■The Angels’ Kendry Morales played in his first game since since May 29, 2010, when he broke his left ankle jumping on home plate to celebrate a game-ending grand slam.

■The Angels’ Jered Weaver became the third Angels pitcher to get at least 10 strikeouts on Opening Day, joining Nolan Ryan (12 apiece in 1973 and 1975) and Andy Messersmith (11 in 1970).

■White Sox manager Robin Ventura and Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan spoke for the first time since their infamous brawl 19 seasons ago. Ryan went to the visitors’ clubhouse to wish good luck to Ventura before his managerial debut.

■The White Sox’ Adam Dunn tied a major league record with his eighth Opening Day home run. It was the sixth time Dunn had homered in the first game of the season; he twice had two homers.

■Brewers fans gave a rousing reception to Ryan Braun, a show of support for the NL MVP whose 50-game suspension for a positive drug test was overturned.

■The Astros had 10 players make an Opening Day roster for the first time.
