Roundup: Scott Anderson has no-hitter

Archbishop Williams pitcher Scott Anderson’s sophomore season ended last year when a foul ball hit him in the face in a game against Austin Prep, giving him a concussion.

When the Bishops traveled to No. 17 Austin Prep Friday afternoon, the junior righthander threw a no-hitter in a 3-1 win, clinching a playoff berth.

“It was unbelievable,’’ said coach Pat Clifford, in his 10th season.

Archbishop Williams improved to 9-4.

“I was worried about a letdown after an extra-inning win [Thursday] against Cardinal Spellman,’’ said Clifford.

Anderson walked two and struck out four, allowing only one unearned run.

Junior James Daley went 2 for 3, just missed a home run early, and made two outstanding catches in center field.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better way to clinch,’’ said Clifford. “We’re really young. This team’s got great chemistry and is the scrappiest team I’ve ever coached, which makes us dangerous.’’
