■Cubs manager Dale Sveum was ejected in the ninth inning for arguing balls and strikes with plate umpire Marty Foster.

■Cubs first baseman Bryan LaHair singled in the seventh inning to extend his streak of reaching safely to 22 consecutive games.


Texas has lost three in a row for the first time since Aug. 23-25.

■Rangers’ Colby Lewis allowed six runs and 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings, snapping his personal six-game winning streak dating to Sept. 9. That was the longest active streak in the AL.

■ The Rays, who are a major league-best 19-8, improved to 13-1 at home and won for the 12th time in 13 games overall.

■Angels’ Albert Pujols’s career-worst home run drought reached 33 games and 137 at-bats after he went 0 for 4, dropping his average to .194.

■The White Sox are moving Chris Sale to the bullpen to be their closer, but he isn’t expected to pitch in this series. So Matt Thornton came back out for the ninth and couldn’t get through it.


■Phillies Homer Pence and Carlos Ruiz homered off Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg, who had gone 66 innings without letting a ball leave the yard.
