Boston to host 2014 US figure skating

Boston will be the site of the US Figure Skating Championships in 2014 - the seventh time the city has hosted, but the first in an Olympic year.

The nationals, which again will be held at TD Garden (as they were in 2001), will be hosted by the Skating Club of Boston, the country’s third-oldest club, which celebrated its centennial this year.

“The area is stepped in figure skating tradition,’’ observed US Figure Skating Association executive director David Raith.

Boston also staged the event in 1922, 1926, 1931, 1941, and 1962.

The 2014 edition, which will be held from Jan. 5-12, will determine the team for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the following month. Tickets will be available this summer.

The city also will be the venue for next year’s World Synchronized Skating Championships, which will be held in April at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.
