RED SOX NOTEBOOK: The Red Sox placed Rich Hill on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left elbow strain after the left-handed reliever developed some tightness, prompting the team call up Mark Melancon from Triple A Pawtucket. The move came almost a year to the date when Hill underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery last June 9 to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow after his 2011 season was limited to eight scoreless innings of relief in which he allowed three hits and three walks and recorded 12 strikeouts over nine games.
