Lest we forget how far today's horses are from the champions of the past, Secretariat ran the Belmont in 1973 in 2:24, still the only horse to break 2:25 on dirt. Secretariat would have finished this years race 6 seconds ahead of Paynter and Union Rags - about 30 t0 36 lengths.
